Plain-English answers about the NDIS and how we work. Can't find yours? Call 1300 WE NDIS.
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is the Australian Government's way of funding supports for people with a permanent and significant disability. It gives participants funding to buy the supports they need to pursue their goals, build independence and take part in the community.
Who can access the NDIS?
To be eligible you generally need to be under 65 when you apply, be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or Protected Special Category Visa holder, and have a permanent and significant disability (or qualify for early intervention). The NDIS website has an eligibility checklist.
How do I apply for the NDIS?
Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or visit ndis.gov.au to make an access request. You'll need evidence of your disability from a doctor or specialist. If you'd like help understanding the process, give us a call — we're happy to point you in the right direction even before you have a plan.
What supports does Borealis Care provide?
Community access, in-home support, care planning, skills development, day programs, community housing assistance, therapy support, capacity building, SIL/respite/SDA (subject to availability) and support coordination. See the services page for detail on each.
How much do services cost?
Our prices follow the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, which are set by the NDIA. There are no hidden fees. Before supports begin we provide a service agreement that sets out exactly what you're paying for and from which budget.
Do you accept self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed participants?
Yes — all three. As a registered provider we can claim directly from the NDIA for agency-managed plans, invoice your plan manager, or invoice you directly if you self-manage.
Which areas do you service?
We're based in Sydney and support participants across Greater Sydney and regional NSW. We currently have teams in Wollongong, Young and Forster, and we're expanding to other regions such as Bathurst. If your area isn't listed, call us — we may already be nearby or planning to be.
How quickly can supports start?
After your free meet-and-greet, most participants start within one to two weeks. Urgent situations can often be accommodated sooner — tell us what you need.
Can I choose my support worker?
Yes. We match you with workers based on your preferences — language, gender, interests and personality — and introduce them before supports begin. If it's not the right fit, we'll change it.
How do I make a complaint or give feedback?
Talk to your support worker or team leader, call 1300 936 347, email info@borealis.com.au, or use our feedback form. You can also contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission on 1800 035 544. Complaints never affect your supports.
